With these weekly “Liturgies for the Little Years,” I seek to give words to the unique experiences of raising young kids in prayer form. My hope is that these liturgies would bring a sense of sacredness and meaning into the ordinary moments of daily life as a parent.
Happy Easter Mamas! I hope your weekend is filled with joy, worship, and (fingers crossed) a good afternoon naptime for you to relax and soak everything in :) Here’s a little liturgy that you might use to reflect on the meaning of Easter and even share with your children while they entertain themselves with their Easter egg candy 🤍
A Liturgy for: An Easter Egg Hunt
As little ones eagerly set off to hunt brightly colored eggs, I am reminded of another search many years ago, O Lord, when your followers looked for you the third day after the darkest day when all seemed lost and you surrendered to the cross. And yet, as little fingers pry apart their found treasures to reveal what’s inside, your followers likewise found a surprise: your tomb cracked open, but not you inside - instead, the burial garments laid aside, and angelic words declaring, “He’s alive!” O Risen Savior, like the children toting their baskets full of eggs, may I carry this good news with me wherever I go. Your death and resurrection, now my own, may I carry it in testimony and speech, and in every act, may I display the new life you bring. Yes, may all I do reflect you my king, abounding in love and grace, forever reigning victorious over the grave.
